Congratulations to Roberto de Abreu, who has been awarded full national junior colours for Chess and will be participating at the 2011 World Youth Olympiad Chess Championships, to be held in Sanluirfa, Turkey, from 23 October to 1 November, 2011.
Joshua Stotko (Grade 8J) has won free entry into the 2011 Commonwealth & South African Open Chess Championships (B section), which will be held from Saturday, 24 June until Sunday, 3 July at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni.
Outline of Activty
Chess participates in the North West Rand High Schools League and stages an Inter-house tournament annually. The Juniors (grades 8 and 9’s) play in the Junior League during the first term. The Seniors play in the Senior League during the second term.
Practice and coaching take place each Friday under the supervision of our profession coach Corno Klaver.
Requirements
- Pupils must attend 80% of their Chess practices and 80% of their matches.
- Pupils must uphold Chess etiquette at all times and display a willingness to help set up and pack away Chess boards and pieces.
- Pupils must participate in the Junior and Senior Inter-house Chess events and/or knock out competition.
Chess ranking should be developmental over at least 3 years. (Meaning their ranking must improve)
