Girls Soccer

Francesca Dobrovolsky (Gr 8) has been selected to the South African Football Association U15 National Girls Squad 


Kelly Roberts (in grade 11), has been awarded a 50% scholarship to the value of $2500 to a ballet Summer School in New York, The American Academy of Ballet.


Morgan Cordier has been selected by Central Gauteng Swimming to represent her club at the South African Level 3 National Age Group Swimming Championships to be held in Cape Town from 13 - 17 March.


National Eisteddford Academy

Kierryn Richards participated in the National Eisteddford Academy and has been presented with the following awards:

  • Diploma and category winner for a scene from 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory';
  • Gold for a scene including a duologue;
  • Diploma for improvisation;
  • Diploma for a creative advert;
  • Medal and category winner for improvisation;
  • Medal and category winner for a creative advert for television.


Morgan Cordier has met the criteria set by the Central Gauteng Biathlon Association to achieve COLOURS for representing Central Gauteng Biathlon during the 2012/2013 season. She also represented Central Gauteng Biathlon at the 2013 South African Biathlon Championships for the U13 age group.

Under 16 Gauteng Girls Cricket

Louise Impey has been selected as a member of the U16 Gauteng Girls Cricket Team. She will be playing in a festival in Pretoria from 4 to 7 December 2013.

Tang Soo Do World Championships

Natalie Duligal won a silver medal for modern forms in the 1st Dan black belt ladies category at the world championships! This was quite an achievement, especially as it was a large group of 20 competitors who ranged in age from 14 to mid-thirties.


Diandra Rodrigues has qualified to represent the South African Dance Team at the International Dance Organisation World Championships to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark from 16 to 20 October 2013.


Jesse van der Merwe (Gr 8) has been selected to participate in the above Olympiad on Saturday 7 September 2013 from 10:00 - 16:00 at St John's College. This prestigious annual event attracts the country's top young mathematicians. 


Kerry Shuter has been selected to represent South Africa at the Junior World Flat Water Marathon Championships to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark from 15 to 23 September 2013.


Keegan Harrington will has represented his Karate Club at the SA Goju-Ryu Karate Team Trials and Championships in Cape Town from 14 June to 17 June.

He competed in his weight division of under 57kg, 14-15 Years Cadets category trials for a place on the SA Team 2013.

He won all 3 of the fights in his division and was awarded a GOLD medal and selected for the SA Team Kumite 14 & 15 Years Cadets.

He will now compete in the SA World Goju-Ryu Karate Federation Championships at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town from 11 - 16 September 2013.


Darragh Hourrides has won a full $7000.00 scholarship to the American Academy of Ballet Summer Intensive in New York for six weeks.


Kerry and Andrew Shuter took part in the SA Schools Sprint Championships at Roodeplaat Dam on 7 April. They were placed first in the Senior Co-Ed Schools competition.


Josh Stotko (Gr 10R) represented Gauteng West at the SA Junior Chess Championships in Cape Town in December last year. He won a board prize in the u16 team event and came 11th in the individual event. Consequently, he has been selected to participate in the SA Junior Closed 2013 from 2 to 7 April at the Kopanong Hotel and Conference Centre in Johannesburg.

Tang Soo Do

Nicci Scott has been selected to represent the South African National Team in the Tang Soo Do World Championships to be held in Holland during October 2013. Tang Soo Do is a Korean Martial Art. She obtained a Gold, 2 X Silver and a Bronze medal in the S. A. Championchips held in February 2013. She is currently 1st Dan, Balck belt.

This is the third time Nicci will tour internationally for her Martial Arts and the second time as part of the South Africam National team. She was in Poland in 2009, and Orlando, USA, in 2011.



Natalie Duligal was officially chosen as part of Team South Africa for Combat Tang Soo Do to represent South Africa during the World Championships to be held in Rotterdam, Netherlands on the 11th – 13th October 2013. Natalie, who was awarded her black belt in June 2012, achieved 2 gold and 3 silver medals at the South African Combat Tang Soo Do Nationals, held on the 23 February 2013 in Gauteng.

At the next national tournament in Bloemfontein in May she won 6 medals.


Morgan Cordier has been received provincial colours for Central Gauteng Biathlon and will be participating in the SA Nationals in Oudtshoorn from 20 to 22 March.



Roberto de Abreu was recently awarded the accolade of best South African international chess player / participant for 2012 across all age groups.  We are very proud of his achievement.












Stephanie Williams (Grade 10) competed in the SANESA Equestrian Inter-Schools League during the year. She qualified for the Regionals in Showjumping and Equitation and made it through to Nationals at Kyalami Equestrian Estate on 23 September, representing De La Salle in Showjumping.

She obtained 11th place in Showjumping in the Championship against schools all over South Africa.

She also obtained Full Colours for representing Gauteng West in the Regional Finals in August and Half Colours for representing Gauteng in the National Championships.

Stephanie was also selected to represent Gauteng South for Showjumping in an Inter-regional team competition event. The team got a bronze medal.

Irish Dancing

Kristin Solomon participated in the SOUTH AFRICAN IRISH DANCING CHAMPIONSHIPS. She came 1st in the PRIOMH COMORTES – which is a soft shoe dance and a hard shoe dance.

She also came 1st Overall in the South African Irish Dancing Championsips.


Kendra Blignaut  (Grade 10) competed in the SANESA Equestrian  Inter Schools National Championships at Kyalami Equestrian Park on 23 September, representing De La Salle Holy Cross College In Dressage.

 She obtained a 3rd place in Dressage in the Championship.

She also obtained Full Colours for representing Gauteng West in the Regional Finals in August and Half Colours for representing Gauteng in the National Championships.


Roberto de Abreu who participated at the African Youth Chess tournament that took place in Pretoria this year between 29 September 2012 and 07 October 2012. The tournament is a decider for the champion for the African continent.

Roberto finished joint 1st at the tournament and was therefore awarded the title of FIDE Master (FM) which is a title he keeps for life. 

Roberto will be away in Slovenia representing South Africa between 04 November 2012 and 19 November 2012.

 Artistic Gymnastics

Jenna Sutcliff who has been awarded Central Gauteng Colours for Artistic Gymnastics. She has been selected to participate in the National Gym Games to be held at Matsport Centre, Eldoraigne on Friday 5 October 2012.

Minquiz Science Quiz

Christian Parschau who was placed 3rd in the Minquiz Science Quiz.


During the holidays the debating team took part in the South African Institute of International Affairs Environmental Sustainability Project. The team was: Ryan McCallum, Phillipe de la Roche, Thomas Hopkins and Ryan Morley, who is the researcher.

The team has been awarded a certificate as a 2012 provincial finalist, where they were placed in the top 6 in Gauteng out of 28 teams.

Ryan, Philippe and Thomas are awarded certificates for outstanding achievement. Thomas was in the top 1 of 3 best presenter out of 18.

Street Dance

Diandra Rodrigues who has qualified for the International Dance Organisation Street Dance World Championships to be held in Bochum, Germany from 29 September to 10 October 2012.

Accounting Olympiad

The National Accounting Olympiad allows only 5 pupils from each school to enter.

All 5 De La Salle Holy Cross College Pupils finished in the Top 5% of the country which allowed them to write the 2nd Round.

 We would like to congratulate DUSAN ECIM on finishing 2nd in the Region (Gauteng) and 2nd in the country in this Olympiad.

Sabrina Carvalho has achieved her District Colours for the Rand Central Local Football Association for the past four seasons (2009, 2010, 2011 and 2112)


Kerry Shuter has been selected to represent South Africa in the ICF World Marathon Champs in Rome, Italy. The South Africa team will be flying out on the 15 September 2012 and returning on the 25 September. Kerry will be competing in the U18 category in the K2 event; racing a distance of 18km.


Tumi Masipa (Gr 10) has been selected for the  Provincial (Southern Gauteng) U16 A Team.

She played in the Inter-Provincial Hockey Tournament from 8 - 14 July.

The results were as follows:

  • vs Eastern Gauteng : won 2-0
  • vs Eastern Province : won 1-0
  • vs KZN Inland : won 2-1
  • vs Boland : won 2-0
  • vs Free State : won 4-0
  • Final vs KZN Inland : won 1-0

Connor O'Boyle and Alistair van Schoor were selected to play for the Golden Lions Development XV at the St John's College Esater Rugby Festival.

SA Regional Level 2 swimming finals

Lorraine Eden has qualified to swim at this event from 23rd to 26th March 2012 in Polokwane.  


Roberto de Abreu participated in the South African Junior Closed Chess Tournament from 30 March to 4 April 2012 in Pretoria.

Roberto de Abreu particiated in the Chess nationals in Port Elizabeth during December.

He finished tie in second place in South Africa in the U16 age group which qualifies him to play at the South African closed which takes place in early April 2012. This tournament will be the eventual decider as to who is selected to represent South Africa later in the year in Slovenia.


Justin made an unaccompanied trip to Poznan, in western Poland, during December. He enjoyed some rigorous training with Polish fencers, and then travelled to Leszno on 18th Decemberto compete in the 2011 Junior Men's Foil World Cup. He was placed 69th in a field of 180 fencers. Most of the competitore were from Eurpoean countries, with one or two from Singapore and Canada.

Justin has been awarded Gauteng Colours in both Junior and Senior Men's Foil, and is Senior Men's Foil Champion.

Roberto de Abreu has been awarded full national junior colours for Chess, and will be participating at the 2011 World Youth U16 Olympiad Chess Championships, to be held in Sanluirfa, Turkey from 23 October to 1 November 2011.

Joshua Stotko (Grade 8J) has won free entry into the 2011 Commonwealth & South African Open Chess Championships (B section), which will be held from Saturday, 24 June until Sunday, 3 July at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni.

Roberto de Abreu will be participating in the Championship section.

Gavin and Kerry Shuter participated in the SA Schools sprint regatta at Nagel Dam in KZN recently. With many schools being represented, De La Salle Holy Cross College was placed 3rd on the log due to their results.

Kerry participated in the SA National Sprint Regatta, where she raced in the U18 age group (1000m, 500m, 200m and 3000m). She was selected to represent South Africa at the World Cup in Germany later this year.

Kerry : Victrix Ludorum, Won the U16 1000m sprint K1

Gavin : Won the U18 1000m sprint with his partner from Maritzburg College, On the podium for the 3000m K2 event.

Justin Logie participated in the South African Junior Fencing Team at the Africa Championships which were held in Pretoria in December. 
Justin was awarded a Bronze medal. The Gold medallist was an Egyptian fencer.
Justin qualified for both Provincial and National colours last year.
He'll compete in the Junior World Fencing Championships to be held in Jordan, in April, this year.s.
